How to Use the Callout Section

Callout Section

Setup the "Callout Section" to present a visible call-to-action for your site visitors. A possible use is directing clients to purchase product or sign up for your blog.

The Callout section can be placed in the Header, Page Template, Content Area, or Morefoot template areas and includes a Callout image positioned to the right of the text.

The Callout section can be setup on Pages, Posts, and WordPress Special Pages (such as Author, Category, and Search Results).

Activate Callout

There are different ways to setup the Callout Section.

Activate the Callout Section from the Templates Panel

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "PageLines" panel, then "Templates"
2. Select the Template Area where the Callout section will appear
   • In the default Pagelines installation, the Callout section can be added to the following Template Areas: Header, Page Templates, Content Area, or Morefoot
   • If you select the "Page Template" area, by default the Callout section will be displayed on every page that is assigned to the type of Page Template you choose
   • If you select "Header" or "Morefoot," by default the Callout section will be displayed on every page regardless of the Page Template
3. Select the "Type of Page" or "Content Area Type" to which the Callout will be added
   • This selection is not available for Header and Morefoot template areas. If the callout section is added to these areas, the section will appear on all page types. Although, the section can be disabled on each individual page under Page Setup Meta Settings.
4. Drag & Drop the "Callout" section from the "Available/Disabled Sections" into the "Active Sections" list
   • To activate more than one Callout Section, click "Callout Options"
   • Then click Clone
5. The Section Order will be saved automatically

You will now see the Callout section on every page that it is active on. Return to individual pages to add the content to your "Callout" sections.

Hide the Callout section on individual pages

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "Pages" panel, then "All Pages"
2. Click to edit the page on which you wish to hide the Callout section
3. On the "Meta Panel," click the "Page Setup" tab
4. Under "Individual Page Section Control," click "Hide Callout"
5. Click "Save Meta Settings"

Because the Callout section is displayed by default when you Enable it, you will need to use this method for every page or post on which you do not want the Callout section displayed.

Hide Callout by Default

Alternatively, you can hide the Callout section by default and enable it on individual pages or posts.

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "PageLines" panel, then "Templates"
2. Make sure you have the correct Template Area selected for the type of pages you want to hide
3. Under "Active Sections" click "Callout Options"
4. Click "Hide This By Default"
5. The Section Options will save automatically

Now the Callout section will be hidden by default until you select to show it on individual pages or posts.

1. Select the "Pages" panel, then "All Pages"
2. Click to edit the page on which you wish to show the Callout section
3. On the "Meta Panel," click the "Page Setup" tab
4. Under "Individual Page Section Control," click "Show Callout"
5. Click "Save Meta Settings"

Add the Callout Header, Text and Image to your activated Callout sections.

Return to the page on which the callout appears to create the Callout text.

From your WordPress Administration Panel:

1. Select the "Pages" panel, then "All Pages"
2. Click to edit the page on which you wish to create the Callout section
3. On the "Meta Panel," click the "Page Setup" tab and check under "Individual Page Section Control" to make sure the Callout Section was enabled per the instructions above
4. Click the "Callout Meta" tab
   1. If for some reason, the "Callout Meta" is "Inactive"
   2. Note the "Template" for the selected page (located under WordPress "Page Attributes" in the right column)
   3. Click on "Inactive on Template." You will be taken to the PageLines / Templates panel where you can drag-and-drop to activate the "Callout" on the appropriate page template.
5. Enter the Callout Text
6. Enter a Callout Image
7. Enter a Callout Link
   • This is the URL returned when a visitor clicks on the Callout Image
8. Set the "Callout Meta" for any clones
   • Clones must previously have been activated in the "PageLines" Templates panel. See enabling clones.
   • Activated clones will each have their own tab and appear under "Callout Meta" as "Callout Meta (#2)", "Callout Meta (#3)", etc.
9. Click "Save Meta Settings"

Add the Callout content to individual posts

For all instructions in this tutorial, you may substitute "Post" for "Page" to activate, hide, show or create a Callout Section on an individual post.

You may also create a Callout section on WordPress Special Pages such as Author, Archive and Search Results pages.

1. Select the "PageLines" panel, then "Special"
2. Select the Special Page on which the Callout section will appear (in this example "Author Posts")
3. In the "Select Settings" panel, click on "Callout Meta"
   1. If for some reason, the "Callout Meta" is "Inactive"
   2. Click on "Inactive on Template." You will be taken to the PageLines / Templates panel where you can drag-and-drop to activate the "Callout."
4. Enter the Callout Header & Text
5. Enter a Callout Image
6. Enter a Callout Link
   • This is the URL returned when a visitor clicks on the Callout Image
7. Set the "Callout Meta" for any clones
   • Clones must previously have been activated in the "PageLines" Templates panel. See enabling clones.
   • Activated clones will each have their own tab and appear under "Callout Meta" as "Callout Meta (#2)", "Callout Meta (#3)", etc.
8. Click "Save Options"
9. Your settings are saved; the Callout now appears on your Special Page!

Tip: Add Callout Content From Website

Here is a trick for adding Callout content directly from your website.

First, make sure the Callout section is activated in the template.

1. On your site, click on the page or post on which the callout section is activated
2. You will see an empty placeholder for the Callout section
3. Click on "Set Meta"
   • This takes you to the "Callout Meta" panel for that individual page or post

Tip: Create Multiple Callouts

To create multiple Callout Sections in the Header, Morefoot, Page Templates or Content Area, clone the section in the Templates panel.

You can then add the Callout text and image following the tutorial above.

1. Select the "PageLines" panel, then "Templates"
2. Select the Template Area where the Callout section appears
3. Click "Callout Options"
4. Click "Clone"
   1. The "Clones" are added to the available sections list
5. The Section Order will be saved automatically

Return to individual pages to add the content to your cloned "Callout" sections.
