Before You Buy

What exactly is WordPress?
WordPress is a powerful blogging platform that organizes content into pages, posts and media. With WordPress, site administrators can login and modify any content on their web pages and news posts in one centralized content management system.

What is a theme?
Themes are add-ons to the WordPress platform that format the look and feel of the content of the site. Our themes add additional features and functionality to WordPress in terms of content management and include several different page templates to give your site that professional look and feel.

What is the difference between free and Pro themes?
In the end, it comes down to the degree of functionality and support that you would like. Our free themes have the aesthetic design of our Pro themes and are good for your blogging needs; however, they do not come with many of the features and page template options that our Pro themes come with. Our Pro versions are themes designed to be comprehensive, professional websites. The Pro versions allow you to create several different pages with differing layouts that are easily customizable. We provide support for all of our Pro themes and will make sure our Pro users end up with a site that they are happy with.

What do I need to have before I buy?
In order to use our themes, you’ll need an installation of WordPress on your web hosting server and administrator rights on your WordPress Install. If you don’t have WordPress yet, get it for free at WordPress.org.

What kind of support can I expect with the Pro Themes?
We are committed to helping our Pro PageLiners create the site that they want. We provide both email and forum support and will help you along your web projects. We guarantee support for any theme related issues that you may run into as well as guidance on any theme customizations that you may want to do.

How do updates work?
Each of our themes comes with unlimited updates for the life of that release. For example, all updates for WhiteHousePro 2 are free. Send us your purchase information and we’ll send you a link to the update.

I’ve been using the free theme and I’d like to upgrade to the Pro theme. Will my settings be lost?
No, just follow the instructions provided in our theme. All your settings from the free theme should be saved to the database and apply themselves when you activate the Pro theme.

Getting Started

I bought a theme, but I haven’t received the theme files yet. What’s the big deal?
A link to the download page is sent to the email address supplied through e-junkie. You may have incorrectly entered your email address or the email may have been pushed into your spam folder. If either are the case, send us your payment details and we’ll gladly send you another email.

I get an error message when I try to install my theme.
Our themes come zipped when downloading from the purchase link. This zipped file is a package that includes the theme folder and a readme, so make sure to unzip the downloaded file and find the theme folder when trying to install. The readme contains instructions on how to do this.
If you are installing through WordPress’ install feature, make sure to upload the correct file, which can be found within the unzipped download file.
If you are still having trouble, the surest way to install is to manually upload (via FTP) the theme folder to your themes directory (‘WP-ROOT’/wp-content/themes/). After installation activate it and you should be good to go.

I was hoping to have the theme looking exactly like the demo content. Is there a way to set it up exactly like the demo?
Yes, if you send us a request, we can give you an export of the dummy content on the demo sites. You can upload this content through WordPress tools and you should be ready to go.

How-To

How do I set the front page to the feature page?
1. Create a WordPress page with the Feature Page – standard selected as the Page Template.
2. Set a static page as the front page in the WordPress Settings > Reading Panel. Make sure you set the “Front Page” to the page you just created.

How do I use the Page Templates?
In the WordPress Page editor, there should be a panel labeled “Attributes”. In this panel, there should be a dropdown menu to select Templates. You can use any of these templates to create the page you want.

How do I create Post Thumbnails?
WP 2.9.1 users –
There should be a ‘Post Thumbnail’ panel in your WordPress Post editor. Upload an image via the media feature and select the appropriate thumbnail in the Post Thumbnail panel.

WP 2.8.6 and down –
Our themes for WP 2.8.6 and down rely on a plugin called WP-Post-Thumbnail. Make sure this plugin is installed and activated.
In your Post Editor, upload an image via the media feature. You don’t have to actually use the image in the post if you don’t want to, this is simply to tie the image to the post. Save the post.
Scroll down to the bottom of the Post Editor and you should see a panel titled ‘WP-Post-Editor’. Select the image that you uploaded (it should appear here, if not you may have not saved the post. Save the post). Follow the steps in the panel. Save the post.

How do I exclude pages from the navbar?
We would recommend using a plugin to achieve this. Try the Exlude Pages plugin to exclude any pages from the nav bar.

Customization

Must have tools.
Depending on the level of customization that you want to do to our themes, you’ll need a few tools.
1. FireBug – This must-have plugin is for Mozilla FireFox. You can use this little browser add-on to do a ton of things from identifying elements on a website to debugging JavaScript.
2. Hex Code Color Chart – To find hex color codes, a hex color chart or imaging program is a must. Here’s a good chart on the web: Web Monkey – Color Charts.
3. WordPress Docs – The wordpress community is wonderful. Reference this if you can’t find anything on PageLines about your issue.
4. PageLines Support – We do our best to help you succeed. Use our forum and our support request form and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.

I want to change the look of something on theme, but there’s no option for it.
In order to customize something that does not have an option for it, some knowledge of CSS and/or PHP may be necessary. Use the custom css field in the custom code panel to add any additional customizations that you need.
If you need any guidance, let us know and we’ll help you change whatever you need.

I have a custom element that I want to include on my site. How should I go about it?
1. Plugins
An immediate solution is to search for a plugin that will do what you need. We chose WordPress as our platform because of its great support and wide-range of free, usable plugins. If you let us know what you need, we can recommend a plugin for you.
2. Feature Request
We are constantly looking to add features to our themes, however, because our resources are limited, we cannot add every feature request to the next release of our themes. We will try our best to do so, so if you have a request feel free to make it on our ticketing system.
3. Forum Post
You can post on our forum and other PageLiners and our support staff can help you get what you need. Be advised, that some customizations are more easily done with some prior knowledge of coding. But don’t let that scare you, we’ll do the best we can to help get you where you need.

Does PageLines do custom porting/theming to other online applications?
PageLines is committed to bettering our current WordPress and bbPress theme offerings. As this is the case, we do not custom porting work at this time, however, our themes do come with all the files to accomplish this yourself or with a hired web developer.

Troubleshooting

A PageLines logo is appearing in the middle of my blog page.
This is usually caused by a markup error in the sidebar. Make sure to fill in all fields when using widgets. Some unfilled fields cause WP to incorrectly generate the sidebar widgets causing the floating PageLines logo. If you’re stuck on this, let us know and we’ll help you fix it.

My site looks strange in Internet Explorer!
Internet Explorer is a strange beast as it behaves very differently than most other browsers. We are doing our best to fix any compatibility issues in our themes. Send us an email or post on our forum to report an internet explorer issue and we will fix the issue as quickly as possible.
