Trickle was inspired by the rotating header section found in the new Instagram user profiles. With Trickle you can specify 1-10 images to use in each of the 7 available “Slots”. You can also adjust each slots speed and delay giving you quite the control.

Features

Gallery Control: Display from 1-10 images in each Slot, each rotating with their own timing and delay..

Optional Captions: Captions? No problem. Simply fill out some text and BAAM! Instant captions with a title and description. You can also provide a link for each image and link them anywhere you please.

Header Option: Move Trickle into the header, toggle the “Use in Header” box, and you’ll instantly have a full screen rotating heading background.

Tips for Use

Did you know that Trickle can be used as a rotating header background? It’s true! Simply toggle then checkbox at the end of the option panel, and Trickle will be set full width across the top of your site.

It’s worth noting that you’ll need to be responsible for doing whatever else to your site to make sure it fits. To get you started, give #page-main a margin top of 350px.

It’s also worth noting that, when used in the header, Trickle does have a maximum height of 400px. In other words, when you make the screen really big, the bottom part will disappear. This is normal, and prevents the header from taking up the entire site when viewed on very large screens.

Hi there! Quick question....I was wondering how I could hide slots E and G? Also, on my current website (freepressdev.wheretothink.com), you'll see that the height of the section is all wonky...how do I standardize the height of each part of the section?

nphaskins

@ekanouse Your images need to be a lot bigger. If you need further support please use the forum.

Hi Nick! I wanted to add a different numbers of images to the different slots, but the dashboard is showing up only 3 upload boxes, no matter if put 2, or 6 or something else...Could you help me please?

Thx

Hi Nick! Thx for your quick response. Unfortunately nothing is working...there is no link on the images and no link-button activated; So i tried also to upload the images directly from the computer...but no way :(

How ca i resolve the problem?

nphaskins

@corina_grether I looked at your source yesterday, and the markup had links. This is how I knew you had the link option set, but no links. However today, it's gone, but you now have a jquery issue. Disable ALL other plugins or sections to find which one is causing the mess.

Hi Nick, I would like to obtain the same effect as in your live demo site.

I have 3 images 500px in slot A, but there is no transition between the images instead of showing up all three togheter...could you take a look here?

Nick,

Would you please give me the CSS I need to add to make Trickle max-height 200px. I tried a number of things, but none worked.

Thanks,

Bruce

Nick,

After more playing and reading deeper into your support thread, It looks like the problem was related to the width of our page (1200 px). This is intended to be a part of a government site and a wider page is a complete 180 degree shift from the narrow format we have now.

When I installed in onto a separate Pagelines site with a width of 1000 px, everything looked fine.

At 1200 px and larger, Slot C separates from Slots D and F.  All images increase size by around 20-30%, and during page load all images appear and then "snap back" into place.  I don't know if you tested for that.  If you ever put out a manual, you might want to mention some kind of optimal page width.

Sorry for using "horrible", but in the two previous posts where I had provided a link, it was my mistake to think you had clicked it already.

The page is set at 1100 px now, and the array looks good.  Now I need to fill it with images properly scaled to be square.

nphaskins
nphaskins

@cookcountyblog ya the images are purposefully not set with a width of 100% in order to prevent image degradation. The "space" is because the image just isn't big enough to fill that area. Making the images larger will fix this.

cookcountyblog
cookcountyblog

I'm going to try to install it in a separate Pagelines install and see what happens.  I'm not implying that the section is bad. When I had 800 x 534 images, it looked closer to OK, but loaded funny.

I've done a clean reinstall and it looks bad.  I've deactivated plugins and it looks bad.  I've made images uniformly square and it looks horrible.  I need to eliminate some more variables.

BTW did you check the site?

nphaskins
nphaskins

@cookcountyblog What do you mean by "looks bad," and "looks horrible?" The option, quite literally, takes your image, and puts it on the screen. There's no behind the scenes compression or magic voo-doo involved.

Do you have a link that I can see?

Just made all images 300x300.  Still looks like a hot mess.  What is going on?

nphaskins
nphaskins

@cookcountyblog I use 500x500 for the demo and don't have any issues, nor have I heard any issues about image quality.

Just made all images 500 x 500, still looks funny.  Horrific in Firefox.  I don't have it set as a header.  Going to try 300x300 images next.

cookcountyblog

OK, Ive gone back and made all images completely uniform, 500 x 281.  I've deactivated, deleted and reinstalled.  It looks like a hot mess; especially in Firefox. I've been working in Chrome. I don't want to look at IE.  http://blog.cookcounty.ws

Does this work with the loop in the header? Recent articles?

I've setup a new domain, installed a fresh WordPress v3.5 into a blank directory and MySQL DB. Stripped out all but the very essential Pagelines sections. Removed all plug-ins.

Installed Tickle and only Tickle. - Looks good with your sample images blip, blip, blip - working fine.

Add 3 images into Slot A from the Gallery. Working fine.

But, "Toggle" links (whatever toggle means?) for Slot A.

Add the same link to each image in Slot A (http://www.mywebtest2.co.uk/#)....

It suddenly doesn't work.

Go see: http://www.mywebtest2.co.uk/ (IE10, Firefox and Safari).

Images just display down the page for Slot A.

flidget
flidget

Ok, Safari looks good now. Wow, what a superb feature! Potentially a different link for each image!! That's a navigational possibility of galactic proportions. You could run a competition using this section to click the special image message for a prize!

IE and Firefox not good. I'm seeing all images in all Slots at full native size 500x500px. Aka - the other nasty mentioned in my previous post. The previous v1.0.6 Slot A issue in these browsers is now replicated from Slot A to all Slots. The link hotspot is bound to the correct size for each slot, but the images are overflowing due to their size.

flidget
flidget

Oh Dur! Right, Right! Got it, you mean TICK the box and keep it ticked. (toggle can mean on then off in the Queen's English). All tickety-boo now. I've seen Slot A working perfectly with a super-fantastic link using Safari.

Don't get too excited, even in Safari, I now see a similar v1.0.5 problem that led to v1.0.6 - only Slot A works. I've added 3 images and links to all Slots now (and ticked the Toggles!)

All Slots B to G display down the page. I'll stick my neck out and suggest v1.0.6 didn't replicate everything needed to the other slots - just the ability to add a link? Given we now know that not having a ticked box causes images to display down the page that might be a useful clue, or not.

Just for info - v1.0.6 introduced another nasty, only when you add a link mind. The image re-sizing is buggered in Firefox and IE10 (yes! Firefox!), which I might have imagined was fixed in an earlier version for IE?

I can only produce this at the moment for Slot A in Firefox and IE10.

This resizing issue has added to my confusion as I always test using Satan's Spawn first. If that doesn't work, I take a look using the Gold Standard Firefox, then finally Safari. I don't always get to Safari - if Firefox doesn't work -which it doesn't in this case due to the resizing issue. Sorry, if I had seen it in Safari earlier this might not have dragged on so long.

Neil.

@flidget Right on, found a buggered option that will likely fix that right up. Just deployed 1.0.7.

Hey Nick, I seem to have picked up another issue...when using Trickle on a page that I have setup as my homepage, the "feature" option no longer works.  It does not rotate between screens at all...as soon as I hide trickle "feature" works again - any ideas?

nphaskins
nphaskins

@GilFerreira hmm, what "feature" option are you referring to?

GilFerreira
GilFerreira

@nphaskins I am referring to the Features section...this does not seem to work when on the same page as trickle?  I have even rest all the setting for the Features to default, ie it now shows the default PageLines images etc.  But it still will not loop to the next feature.

GilFerreira
GilFerreira

@nphaskins Would be neat of it could work together...right now I am having to not use the feature section...

nphaskins
nphaskins

@GilFerreira Oh I see what you mean. Hmm, not exactly sure how to tackle that one. The Features section, uses the first generation of that script. Trickle uses the 2nd generation of that script, so it seems the two are fighting each other. I could try to convince PageLines to update their script to the 2nd generation, but not so sure how that would go down.

HI Nick - was just wondering if there is anyway one can have hyperlinks for the photo's on Trickle?

@GilFerreira This gets my vote too - people expect to be able to click anywhere on an image.

 @nphaskins

Hi Nick - what has been fixed? I don't see a new version above 1.0.6 and I have refreshed the store in Pagelines.

flidget
flidget

@nphaskins  @GilFerreira Hi, I've tried removing all the Captions. I've de-selected all Slots for links. I've selected all Slots for links again. I'm out of options. :-(

flidget

 @nphaskins  @GilFerreira

Thanks Nick, I've trimmed all the Framework sections now and the Page Options loads ok. I didn't realise that was a limiting factor and would never have worked that out!

However, I cannot see Trickle working in any of IE10, Netscape and now even in Safari. All the images load, complete with links, but they just stack down the page when loading and don't collapse into the grid to start rotating.

I've cleared cache in all browsers and saved Page Options with links enabled/disable/enabled in sequence to see if it was related to previous issues and not saved correctly in the DB. When links are not ticked/enabled for all slots Tickle still stacks the images down the page, but without the links and doesn't collapse into the grid.

Any assistance gratefully received.

nphaskins
nphaskins

@flidget  @GilFerreira Start deactivating sections that you aren't using to try and reduce the number of options that page has to load for all sections. This update didn't break that area, as it seems to work for me.

flidget
flidget

 @nphaskins  @GilFerreira

Ooops, Upgraded, saw the new fields for the image links slots B-G, added links for 33% (Events in my case), saved and then on refresh the new version seems to have broken Pagelines>Page Options display. Also, image resize may not be fixed, but I cannot add any more links right now as the Page Options "Save" button is not displaying. So cannot confirm.

nphaskins
nphaskins

@flidget  @GilFerreira whoopsy! I just deployed 1.0.6 that addresses this. Try refreshing the store in WP Admin to see the new update. So sorry about that!

flidget

 @nphaskins  @GilFerreira

Hi Nick, In Pagelines>Page Options the field to input links is only showing for Slot A (Same behaviour in Firefox, IE10 and Safari).

I configured all Slots for a link (at the bottom of the slots in Pagelines), then added a link to all images in Slot A to give it a quick test on the site.

This broke the image resize for Slot A for Firefox and IE10 where all the linked images displayed at their original resolution (500x500px) in Slot A.

Safari displays the images and links perfectly. http://www.mywebtest1.co.uk/

The links themselves work great and I like the hover effect. Almost there!

@nphaskins  @flidget Hi Nick...once you are done with update, how would I update what I already have...sorry probably silly question, but I am very new to PageLines

nphaskins
nphaskins

@flidget  @GilFerreira I would say this evening, or tomorrow. Just finished programming in the additional options for links, so just need to test it thoroughly and I'll let 'er rip.
