New packages and pricing.

pricing-changes

So far, it’s been a great 2014. We’ve moved our operations to Austin, Texas and have been working on some very cool new tools and upcoming releases.

I have some news for you: next week, we’re set to release the next major version of PageLines’ flagship product DMS. So that should be great news, and along with that, there will be some pricing changes that we thought best to clarify beforehand.

As far as we know, all pricing changes are great for current customers, and a better fit for future PageLines users.

Here are the details…

Overview

  • We are going back to selling our products as stand alone software with 1-year updates and support.
  • We will be launching a club subscription that will include new tools monthly, including PageLines/WordPress sections, plugins and themes.
  • Current DMS subscribers will be grandfathered into newer plans at a lower monthly rate and without any new start up costs (awesome!).

New Packages & Pricing

DMS & Themes

We will be moving back to the industry standard model of selling stand alone software along with support + updates for a limited time (that can be renewed). Here are the new pricing and packages:

Package Price Includes
Standard $99 Product and pro features, 1 year support & updates
Developer $179 Product and pro features, support & updates for 1 year, developer features, PSDs

Club Subscription

We will also bring back the club subscription for all premium PageLines built products. This means we will be developing and releasing new PageLines products (sections, plugins, themes) on a monthly basis. The club subscription will be priced as follows:

Package Price Includes
Standard $129 + $20/month All premium products plus at least 1 new per month.
Developer $299 + $30/month Developer versions of all premium products* plus at least 1 new per month.
  • DMS Business subscribers will be grandfathered into standard club membership at no extra cost.
  • DMS Developer subscribers will be grandfathered into developer club membership at no extra cost.
  • (*Includes only PageLines built products, not those by 3rd parties on the store.)

Existing Accounts & Grandfathering

PageLines put careful thinking into how to appropriately upgrade users so everyone will be happy with the new changes. All existing customers will have an equal or better deal than they are currently getting. That is structured like so:

Old Package New Package ( Grandfathered )
DMS Standard DMS Developer with updates + support for duration of subscription.
DMS Business Standard club membership including access to all current and upcoming premium products. As well as support + updates.
DMS Developer Developer club membership including access to developer versions of all current and upcoming premium products. As well as support + updates.

Why the changes?

PageLines is continually learning and evolving as a company. We’ve had the opportunity to experiment a lot in the quest to optimize the business for how people use the products and want to pay for them.

When we launched DMS, we believed that it would be better for people to pay lower monthly cost and have everything included with that. This solved several of the issues we had previously heard from customers.

However, the alternative recurring payment for DMS was not ideal for another large group of customers. That is, most people would rather pay for new monthly products than updates and support for their existing one. So that’s why we’re launching the club program.

So with that, we now have the experience to know that the new pricing model will be a good, sustainable fit for years to come.

Great that Pagelines is learning and taking into account that users would want a fair deal with changing circumstances. I appreciate that. A few questions arise though:

    – I’m currently a DMS Business user. As I understood is wel this will become a Standard club membership including access to all current and upcoming premium products. As well as support + updates. But for how long? This is not mentioned… Also for the duration of my current subscription? Like mentioned with DMS Standard?

    – I’m not able to pay $20 for a monthly subscription. So if my current DMS Standars Club Membership ends I will have to transition to a $99 Standard License. This option is price-wise most near to my current DMS Bussiness with the early adopter reduction that I was supposed to have for the duration of my subscription. The Developer option is also too expensive for me. Will there be any negative consequences for the six websites I have currently running on my current DMS Bussiness?

    – How many websites will I be able to run with a $99 standard license?
    Thanks for answering.

janpeeters  hey there! yup here are your answers…

    – I’m currently a DMS Business user. As I understood it well this will become a Standard club membership including access to all current and upcoming premium products. As well as support + updates. But for how long? This is not mentioned… Also for the duration of my current subscription? Like mentioned with DMS Standard?

Answer: You will be grandfathered in to the new club pricing plan for as long as you continue to pay the subscription. Since you’ll be getting more products with no ‘start up’ cost, we think this will be a good deal!

    – I’m not able to pay $20 for a monthly subscription. So if my current DMS Standars Club Membership ends I will have to transition to a $99 Standard License. Answer: Not quite sure what you’re asking, but assuming your asking if you can switch easily, the answer is that yes! You’ll get access to DMS 2 right away and be able to use it.
Just remember that if you cancel your subscription you’ll lose access to club membership as well as updates and support, unless you repurchase the club or purchase the stand alone product.

    – How many websites will I be able to run with a $99 standard license?

You’ll be able to run on unlimited domains!

    @andrew
Hi Andrew, thanks for your quick response. Still not completely clear though, sorry… could be me.
    Regarding question 1:
So my current subscription for about $182 will be grandfathered into DMS Standard Club Membership indefinitely as long as I keep paying my current DMS Business subscription pricing? And not until my current subscription ends on 5 august 2014?
So in other words… I won’t be needing to start paying $20 a month after 5 august to keep the plan I’m grandfathered in, just the current subscription pricing?

    Thanks for clarifying.

  4. arpowers says:

janpeeters  yes, if i understand you correct, just keep paying how you are now and you’ll get the club and all it comes with for free.

For details specifics, just email the desk and we’ll work with you. That’s at hello@pagelines.com

Overall this new setup should be a great deal for existing customers.

  5. MattJohnson4 says:

I hope that those of us using DMS will be able to just update to DMS 2 and not have to do entire site redesigns again like we did from Framework to DMS?

I’ve been very happy with DMS and I am about to launch some really great things with the platform I look forward to sharing with you outside of my website that always is complimented for how nice it looks.

  6. arpowers says:

MattJohnson4  ya we’ve spent extra time on that this time. Learning from the past.

  7. janpeeters says:

arpowers janpeetersThanks Andrew that’s great news!

  8. MattJohnson4 says:

arpowers MattJohnson4  Is this a completely new platform again?

  9. StefanC says:

MattJohnson4 arpowers  Hi Matt, no, it is an update to the existing platform, DMS. It is the next major release of DMS :)

  10. MartinRob says:

So how long befor we can get a sneak peek at DMS 2 Andrew

  11. MattJohnson4 says:

StefanC MattJohnson4 arpowers  Great! I guess I am just nervous because I have invested so much time into learning DMS and have been able to create some really incredible stuff with it. Really can’t wait to see what comes out with the new functionality next week!

  12. Lucas Garvin says:

Glad to see all the progress here. Keeping my eye out for the latest release and more info…

  13. moonbus001 says:

What happens if I sign up for Pagelines this week, before the next week change? I’m interested in paying a monthly fee; I I sign up today; will that I mean that I will pay monthly fee even after next weeks change? If so; for how long?

  14. btnfv says:

Way back when I purchased PL Developer Edition and Plus. Since DMS I was grandfathered in to somehting.

My Product is noted as DMS Developer and my account subscription is DMS Business, not Developer. Did I miss somehting? I would think I would have a DMS Developer subscription now.

  15. Martin (Pagelines) says:

    btnfv

  16. moonbus001 Hi there, if you sign up now you will be migrated to the developer edition or new club services as described in the post above on launch. The monthly subscription will continue to run indefinitely until you cancel.

  17. arpowers says:

MartinRob  everything will be going down early next week :)

  18. kmpeter says:

    Hmm…
So, if I signed up for developer, and paid a year in advace, I will now be hit with monthly fees…??
This on top of questionable support, slow delivery of updates/upgrades, and a general lack of information about development.
Seems we are in for a new major introduction of promises of amazing stuff, and then again running low on delivery…
Please give me, some reason to believe I am wrong…

  19. mustafakadhem says:

    Hi
for Club Subscription Can you give us the money of product as a karma points to able us to buy any product we do not have .
In other words every month give us some Karma points Instead of the product. by this way we can buy any product we need.
    What do you think ?

  20. arpowers says:

mustafakadhem  If you have the club you’ll get access to all PageLines built products. It’s a much better solution.

  21. arpowers says:

kmpeter  You’ll get DMS 2 and club membership for as long as you paid for the developer subscription.

Sorry to hear if you’ve had frustrations. I’d love to hear more and work to make sure you’re happy. Email us at hello@pagelines.com and have the desk forward me.

  22. mustafakadhem says:

arpowers mustafakadhem  Can I download all of them ? and for who give a product every month?

  23. arpowers says:

mustafakadhem we’ll be releasing them through PageLines. And yes, you’ll be able to download all of them if you have club membership ;)

  24. psyphil says:

If you sell a theme to a client will it still render useless if you stop paying for your DMS?

  25. StefanC says:

psyphil  No, and it never was the case! Check the FAQ and features on http://www.pagelines.com/pricing/ :)

  26. jamesclark7272 says:

I have had a Developer’s license since the first week DMS was released.  Have loved it so I get that I’m being grandfathered in.  I have downloaded and activated 2.0 and I went to the Add Sections area and see a few new things but I guess I am misunderstanding.

A previous poster asked if we would be able to now download and use all products in Pagelines (store) but when I go to look at products, there are still prices attached, etc.  Did I misunderstand that?  I thought I could download any products in the store for free with this new set up?

  27. DMS 2.0 IS AMAZING!!!!! I love it love it love it.

  28. psyphil says:

StefanC psyphil  Your support answered me that if I sell a theme to a client I need to keep my subscription in order to keep the pro sections working.

  29. pross says:

jamesclark7272  if you have a developer subscription you will see all PageLines products in your my-account downloads tab on pagelines.com.

  30. psyphil StefanC if you deactivated your subscription on DMS V1 then you would lost the ability to edit the Pro only sections, they would remain in the layout but you wouldn’t be able to edit them unless an activation key was reinserted. This isn’t the case with the new pricing structure and the standalone DMS V2 as all core sections are available, none are locked off as Pro only.

  31. psyphil says:

James (Pagelines) psyphil StefanC  Nice! Definite buy then!

  32. jamesclark7272 says:

pross jamesclark7272  That’s what I was thinking but I’m looking there now and the only products for download are ones I have downloaded or purchased before.  I don’t show any of the products that are in the store there (that I haven’t already purchased).  I have a total of 18 products (not counting Pagelines DMS Developer or the PSD files)

  33. jamesclark7272 prossHi there, its only the PageLines authored products you get included in the plan, not products created by third party developers. So if the product is created by PageLines, like Postpins it will be in your account as part of the sub, but Accordions by Ellen won’t be included.

  34. jamesclark7272 says:

James (Pagelines) jamesclark7272 pross  AHHHHH, got it!  I thought I was misunderstanding that!  Haha.  I was thinking damn, that’s a helluva deal!

  35. IngoGehring says:

    hello,
i have a DMS Developer Upgrade from PL Framework Dev × 1, but i can´t find to download DMS2. where is the download area?

  36. pross says:

IngoGehring  If you have an active subscription the new files should show up.
If not contact support via the usual channels and they will look into it.

  37. airmikedc10 says:

I currently have the DMS Business membership. I’ve been a member from the beginning, before DMS was launched. If I now want to upgrade to the Club membership “Developer” level, is that at the level of pricing relative to what I am currently paying for the business membership?

  38. romanondrasek says:

hello, I have to unistal DMS first and after install DMS2?

  39. ScottDaris says:

Where is the actual list of “Developer-only features” vs regular?

  40. mustafakadhem says:

is there any difference between  STAND-ALONE and  CLUB-MEMBERSHIP ?
If I would like to get dev plan should I choose STAND-ALONE Dev then choose  CLUB-MEMBERSHIP Dev and then pay 30$/Mon
Please can you explain the prices

  41. ScottDaris says:

Because you don’t monitor and/or respond to your reader’s comments and questions, you just lost this sale.

  42. StefanC says:

ScottDaris  Hi Scott. How did you try and get in contact? Let us know of any questions you might have at hello@pagelines.com and we’ll assist you ASAP!

  43. mandrl says:

StefanC The question was fairly simple and one that you need to have listed somewhere. What are “developer-only features”?

  44. Paul_T says:

    mandrl StefanC

I’ve been asking this on the official “paid users’ forum – and haven’t had an answer for days – very disappointing for a company that you are basically paying ‘forever’!

  45. mustafakadhemPageLines DMS comes in two different formats, either a Standalone
edition or via a Club Membership.
The Standalone edition means you purchase the products, as a one
off payment and then own that product. Included with your purchase
you get access to our Support and updates for one year.
The Club membership is an ongoing recurring membership package,
which entitles you to the Core product as well as ongoing support and
updates. Plus access to any PageLines authored products from our
Store and a new product is added each month.
Both of the above editions come in either Standard or Developer.
The Developer edition has extra tools and features which will
assist with creating client sites, these include
Built in Developer mode which includes performance analytics
and logging.Different LESS handling modes. Also developer versions comes with comprehensive PSDs for
    mockups.

  46. arpowers says:

ScottDaris  the list is growing, currently we have a developer dashboard with performance information and various development options. Working on adding this to the site (developers page)

  47. arpowers says:

romanondrasek  no, you should get an update in your admin if you’re a paid customer.

  48. redstate says:

I can’t activate my Pro account as I try to install DMS to my website. This happened the last time that I tried to install DMS. Am I supposed to put my account name or email address in the Pagelines Box? Neither works. I have my license key but that doesn’t help.

  49. BoSalisbury says:

    Hi:

I’m an on-again, off-again web developer and never for hire… always pro bono.

I’m trying to understand the new pricing and see what’s appropriate for my needs. I am an old Pagelines and PlatformPro customer, who’s created and maintained a couple of sites. At this point in time, I only see myself creating/managing 2 or 3 sites. So, it seems to me that I should just go with the Standard Once-Off payment. After a year, if I still need support I would simply pay for another year at $99 – do I understand that correctly? Let’s say after a year, my support runs out and I don’t need it any longer. Then, three years from now I’m pretty active again – I pony up another $99 for support and upgrades, if any?

Then, let’s say I suddenly find myself developing a bunch of sites and need all the tools/support you offer, your Developer Club Membership – I could begin paying a monthly subscription, right?

Then, let’s say 5 years from now I’m no longer developing or maintaining a bunch of sites, I just stop the subscription but would still be able to create sites from my $99 Once-off?

To sum up, I’m not a pro. Rather, I’m a hobbyist and I can change subscriptions to suit my needs, from time to time, correct?

    Thanks
