I re-read through all of the instructions, and set up the newest posts exactly the way it says and the thumbnails are not showing up on the blog main page:
The newest post: Simi Moorpark Democratic.... was set up exactly the way the instructions indicate but it is also not showing thumbnails. The other two posts are not set up properly, so I'm not concerned about them. Once I can get one post to work, then I can adjust the other posts to work as well.
Any suggestions?

All that you need to get to make 'thumbs' work for posts is:
A custom field called "thumb"
with a value equal to the URL of your 200px by 200px image.
The WP-Post-Thumbnail is just a utility to help you do this.
Feel free to try any thumbs plugin, but please let us know if you find one that works better!

i see what happened. when i made a change to another setting in the plugin the custom field changed back to the default (wppt-preset1) and i didn't catch it. didn't realize it did that, now i can be on the lookout for rougue plugins that change their settings. lol.
