Hi there. Are there any design options available for the search bar.

For example square ends instead of round ones?

 

Or is the standard rounded end search bar all there is in framework currently?

You can use custom CSS to customize the field for search. If you'd like to get rid of the round corners, you can overwrite the existing round corner CSS for it. For instructions on how to use Custom CSS and Firebug to do this, please see:
