My clients website does not display the pagelines-customize/style.css just on some computers running ie8.

I have tested it on many different systems and in ie8 and ie9 and it works great, but on my clients computer none of the CSS for the menu is displayed, and it is showing also a hidden menu (for mobile).

Hmm seems to be a problem with your image uploader, i have reduce my file size to 1.3 k and I still get this message ...

I would advise that your client should upgrade to IE9 and see if it makes a difference. There's limited support we can provide for Internet Explorer since it's a browser-related issue.

It is a simple question why is ie8 not reading the CSS file?

The simple, honest answer is that IE8 was written before the development of both HTML5 and CSS3.  As a result, the CSS in PageLines Customize will likely be visible in all contemporary browsers, but not in IE8.   Additionally, even in IE9, there are some CSS things that work in other browsers but won't there.  Examples of this include gradients, text shadows and other things.

We do have a free plugin called Browser Specific CSS that might help you; emphasis on "might"...

Ok, I found out the problem..because I wrote the code to work well with ie8-10...

the client had the ie8 COMPATIBILITY button depressed, which zapped all the CSS.

 

Why MS ever created the button is beyond me.
