PageLines offers some premium products now that will provide posts on a page from a category... such as CatLoop or Latest Blog Entries.
On the less expensive side, with a bit more work to it, there's Special Recent Posts which lets you display X number of posts on any page or even in a sidebar.

within the pagelines settings "site options" - under "blog and posts" - i can choose a lot of things like meta, thumbnail placement, excerpts, etc. and that'll looks like
but i'd like to show posts from 3 different categorys on the home page (which is set to the blog page).
i found this great plugin -display-posts-shortcode- which can use :
http://wordpress.org/support/view/plugin-reviews/display-posts-shortcode
that generates a list and looks like
unfortunately with the plugin i can't use the pagelines settings any more.
my question: do u know a better way with pagelines to solve this problem?

although i have bad experiences with premium plugins i'll give it a try. thanks

Our premium plugins are always tested to work in the PageLines Framework, even if they're 3rd party developers. We carefully screen them to ensure compatibility.
Glad that helped.
