I want the carousel but only want it the width of the text content area. I can't see how to do it in the drag and drop area. Is this even possible?

It's not possible to add a Carousel section within the Content Area. It can only go either above Content Area or below it in the page template. If you need to reduce its width and adjust its position, you'll need to use custom CSS:
