To meet your needs, I'd recommend finding an alternative carousel plugin.

The reason our carousel is viable option in PageLines is simply that it works across browsers and when used properly, it just plain works.
Things don't break down until radical changes are made. Hooks in a carousel are radical and not supportable.
If our carousel doesn't work, we heartily recommend replacing it with something that is more akin to a client's needs.

The statement I made above was pretty clear and not intended to confuse anyone into thinking that the carousel is subject to crashing anyone's site.
My statement was refering to the option of pagelines_carousel_list hook being in the dropdown menu within the carousel section, NOT about the carousel as a viable section.
The key is not the carousel, it's those who'd try to apply a hook anywhere. Improperly added hooks in the most up to date sections may cause the best maintained site to crash, irrespective of the framework or platform.
Thats precisely the reason I came to this forum: to ask how to do it properly. I understand that hooks used improperly can crash a site, plugin, section, etc. I am only asking how this hook was originally intended to be used so that I may expiriment on my own. If you do not know, or do not want to help, so be it. If anyone on this forum does know, please respond to this topic. Thanks.

Second, we do not support the use of hooks in core sections. That's a customization that requires the assistance of a pro.
I was answering your question which impunes that we're placing a section likely to crash a site:
Why is this an option in the pagelines framework if it is likely to crash a site?
I point out that we did not add a section that will crash anyone's site, but that when anyone does unintended and unsupported things with them, it will crash it. Modification of core sections is never supported. As I said, twice before, the solution here, rather than debating this is to find a suitable alternative as any of our developers will tell you.
The hook you mention was coded to make the section work, not to enable customization.
I was answering this quote as well with that information:
There has to be a reason this was coded into the framework...
We'd be happy to provide you access to several of our great pro developers to help with modifications, but those are simply not supportable in this forum. Please see

I also created Better Carousel, a new and improved Carousel plugin with extended post support. Stream any category, multiple categories, and even post types. AND, it's responsive. ![]()
Should be up on the store shortly, it's currently in the review phase.
