Hello, I added the light grey background to my site, but it now has changed the footer from the black bar (that I like) to a weird semi-transparent layer that makes the footer navigation look strange. Can you please help me know what to do here?

Hi there, I'm not sure how you had the site set up before, but it sounds as if the new bg has overridden the previous one. You can set the background of the footer using css to restore the black.
#footer, .fixed_width #footer {
background: none repeat scroll 0 0 #000000;
text-shadow: 0 -1px 0 #000000;
}
