How can I change the search bar color and focus color to be different than the page background color scheme that I have selected? I have a dark brown as my page background color, but it makes the search bar dark as well which drowns out the search text.

You can use de Nav Classic with the "Simple CSS Lite" plugin found in the PageLines Store to change all parameters.

It's a free plugin that allows you control over the color of the menu.
Simple CSS Lite only works on the standard navigation, it don´t work on NavBar.

I have the Simple CSS Lite, and I am using the Nav Classic, but it only controls the menu items, menu hover, and nav bar background, not the search bar.

Thanks James, that got me in the right direction. It changed the search bar background while not in focus, but when you click on it and bring it onto focus it changes to the dark brown again. I think I just need to add the :focus selector to the CSS to get it to work.
