General WordPress Questions

Q. What exactly is WordPress?

WordPress is a powerful website platform that helps you organize your content and market your site. With WordPress, site administrators can login and modify any content on their web pages and posts in one centralized place. Furthermore there are two different WordPress versions. WordPress.com and WordPress.org. The difference between the two is important to understand. Read more on this wordpress.com support page.

Q. What is a theme?

CMS themes are add-ons to the WordPress platform that give you professional tools to format the look and feel of the content of the site. PageLines themes add additional features and functionality to WordPress in terms of content management and include several different page templates to give your site that professional look and feel.

Q. What is a plugin?

Plugins are add-ons that can extend WordPress functionality. There are plugins for almost anything that you would need. You can search for available plugins here.

Q. What is a widget?

Widgets are similar to plugins, but are designed to provide options to sidebar content. You can read more about widgets here.

Q. What are shortcodes?

Shortcode are small code snippits that can be used to create macros for post content. You can read more about shortcodes here.

Q. Do your themes work on WordPress.com?

WordPress.com is a separate type of hosting system and unfortunately our themes are only designed to work with individually hosted WordPress installations. For more information, check out this link for the difference between WordPress.com and WordPress.org.

Q. Do you offer themes on other platforms?

PageLines is committed to bettering our current WordPress and bbPress theme offerings. We believe that WordPress is the best solution for building websites. We are focusing all our efforts to develop WordPress themes that provide you with the best solutions. As this is the case, we do not provide custom porting work at this time, however, our themes do come with all the files to accomplish this yourself or with a hired web developer.

Account / Purchase Questions

Q. How does the payment process work? How do I get my themes?

To purchase, select the purchase theme button on the specific theme page. You will be directed to our LaunchPad system where you will create an account and continue on to Paypal to purchase. Once you purchase a theme, a download link for the theme will be available once you log into your LaunchPad account.

Q. I still haven’t received my e-mail and can’t log in. How long will it take?

Once Paypal has successfully processed your purchase, your account is created and your theme will be available. If you paid through Paypal with an e-check, it can take 3-5 days for your purchase to clear and have access to the download link for your theme.

Q. I can log into my account, but it does not show my theme.

If this is a recent purchase, it usually means that you paid with an e-check through Paypal. Paypal takes 3-5 days to process e-checks. Once processed, your download link will be available.

Q. I am already a member, how can I buy another theme.

The easiest way to purchase another theme is to log into your account, choose the theme from the “Buy Products/Addons” Tab, and follow through the purchase process.

Q. Which payment types do you accept?

We currently accept purchases through Paypal. Paypal has the option of paying through your personal Paypal account, or through the credit card link.

Q. I am having trouble processing payment, who can help?

We will do what we can to help, but most payment processing issues should be directed to Paypal customer service.

Q. How can I change my personal information?

To change personal information for your account, log into your account and go to the “Edit Profile” Tab.

Q. What is the difference between an update and an upgrade?

Each of our themes comes with unlimited updates for the life of that release. For example, all updates for WhiteHousePro2 are free. You can always log into your LaunchPad account and check the changelog and download the latest update to your theme.

Upgrades, however, are treated differently than updates. If you choose to upgrade from WhiteHousePro2 to WhiteHousePro3, for example, there is an upgrade fee unless you have purchased the previous version within 30 days of the new release.

Q. I see there is a new version of my theme, how can I upgrade?

If you would like to upgrade to a new version of a theme, log into your account and go to the “Buy Products/Addons” tab. If you qualify for an upgrade, you will see an upgrade theme product available. Select the upgrade and follow through the purchase process.

Q. Is it possible to upgrade to the Developer versions or +Plus membership after I purchase the Pro version?

Yes definitely! We offer several upgrade paths to our products. Just let us know what you would like and we will let you know what is available!

Q. I lost my password to my account? How can I retrieve it?

Go to the login page for your account and enter either the e-mail or username associated with the account in the “Lost Password” section. You will receive an email with your account information. If you can not remember your e-mail or username, shoot us an e-mail and we can get you back on track.

Q. I’ve been using the free theme and I’d like to upgrade to the Pro theme. Will my settings be lost?

To upgrade from the free theme to the Pro or Developer, just follow the instructions provided in our theme. All of your settings and data from the free theme should be saved to the database and apply themselves when you activate the Pro or Developer theme.

Q. Is there a way to test out your themes before I buy?

Currently there is not a way to test out our themes before you buy. We offer a free version of each theme for you to try, and we have demos of each theme installed on our site for you to check out.

Q.Are your themes compatible with the latest version of WordPress?

Yes! We are constantly responding to WordPress updates and continually work on keeping our themes updated for you! You can always check and download the latest updates for your theme from your LaunchPad account.

Individual Theme Questions

Q. Does my single theme license ever expire?

The short answer is no. Once you purchase a theme from PageLines, you receive usage rights, support and minor updates for the life of the theme.

Q. Does my individual theme include the graphic files?

The Pro version of the themes do not come with the graphic files. If you would like the graphic files for the theme, you would need to upgrade to the Developer edition.

Q. What is the difference between the Pro and Developer versions

The Developer versions of the themes upgrade the Pro versions with several enhancements. The Developer edition includes the Pro theme with the footer link leaf removed, the matching bbPress forum theme, and vector graphic files for the theme.

+Plus Membership Questions

Q. What is the +Plus Membership and what does the membership include?

We offer two separate membership subscriptions. The +Plus Pro Membership, and the +Plus Developer Membership. Both +Plus Memberships include a subscription to all of PageLines themes relative to the +Plus Membership package. For example, if you purchase a subscription to the +Plus Pro Membership, you would receive all of the Pro versions of the themes as long as your subscription is active.

Q. What is the difference between the +Plus Pro and +Plus Developer memberships?

The +Plus Pro Membership gives you all of the Pro Editions of the themes, major updates to the themes, and any new themes when they are released.

The +Plus Developer Membership gives you all of the Developer Editions of the themes, bbPress Forum themes, major upgrades to the themes, and any new themes as they are released.

Q. What happens when I cancel the membership?

We would be sorry to see you go! If you cancel your membership, you would still have access to the support forum, but you would not be able to receive any major upgrades or new themes as they are released.

Getting Up and Running!

Q. How do I install the theme?

Our themes come zipped when downloading from your PageLines LaunchPad account. If you are using FTP you’ll want to unzip the folder before uploading to your server into the WP-CONTENT > THEMES directory. On the other hand, if you will be using WordPress’ install feature, simply choose the original .zip file that you downloaded from your LaunchPad account.

Q. I get an error message when I try to install my theme?

The error is usually caused by something going wrong with installing the theme. Try reinstalling the theme and see if it corrects the error.

Q. I was hoping to have the theme looking exactly like the demo content. Is there a way to set it up like the demo? ?

Yes, we have now posted the demo content in the documentation (see left). You can upload this content through WordPress tools and you should be ready to go.

Customization

Q. What are must have tools to help build my site?

Depending on the level of customization that you want to do to our themes, you’ll need a few tools.

FireBug -This must-have plugin is for Mozilla FireFox. You can use this little browser add-on to do a ton of things from identifying elements on a website to debugging JavaScript.

Hex Code Color Chart – To find hex color codes, a hex color chart or imaging program is a must. Here’s a good chart on the web: Web Monkey – Color Charts.

Q. I want to change the look of something on theme, but there’s no option for it.

In order to customize something that does not have an option for it, some knowledge of CSS and/or PHP may be necessary. Use the custom CSS field in the custom code panel to add any additional customizations that you need. If you need any guidance, let us know on the forum and we’ll help you change whatever you need.

Q. I have a custom element that I want to include on my site. How should I add it?

Plugins:
An immediate solution is to search for a plugin that will do what you need. We chose WordPress as our platform because of its great support and wide-range of free, usable plugins. If you let us know what you need, we can recommend a plugin for you.

Feature Request:
We are constantly looking to add features to our themes, however, because our resources are limited, we cannot add every feature request to the next release of our themes. We will try our best to do so, so if you have a request feel free to make a suggestion in the Forum.

Support / Troubleshooting

Q. What is the best way to get support for a question that I have?

The forum is a great resource for solving your questions! The best way to get support is to check the forum to see if anyone else has had the same question. If your question has not already been answered, go ahead and post a new topic.

Q. A PageLines logo is appearing in the middle of my site.

This is usually caused by an HTML markup error in the sidebar. Make sure to fill in all fields when using widgets. Some unfilled fields cause WordPress to incorrectly generate the sidebar widgets causing the floating PageLines logo.

Q. My site looks strange in Internet Explorer!

Internet Explorer is a strange beast that behaves differently than other browsers. We do our best to fix any compatibility issues in our themes. Send us an email or post on our forum to report an internet explorer issue and we will fix the issue as quickly as possible.

Q. I am trying to have deep integration with bbPress and WordPress and need help!

The best way to get help with bbPress is to search the bbPress site and forums for a solution. You can access the bbPress forum here .
